Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has signed a new five year contract deal with English Premier League side after coming close to departing the Yorkshire club in January.

Harrison nearly joined Leeds United’s English top-flight rivals Leicester city in January, going as far as driving to the club’s training ground as it looked like the club were going to sell him.

But now the left-legged winger, following some stunning performances for Javi Gracia’s side, has signed a new five-year contract to keep him at the club through to 2028.

Harrison’s Goals Vital in Leeds United’s Relegation Battle

This is excellent news for Whites supporters, as the 26-year-old has been unquestionably Leeds’ best player in recent games.

The winger has chipped in with several recent goals and supporters will have him to thank if they manage to avoid relegation this season.

Indeed, Harrison has scored three goals in his last four games, allowing the Yorkshire club to earn seven vital points in the relegation battle.

According to TEAMtalk, the attacker nearly made a deadline-day transfer to Leicester in January before the deal fell through.

Inversely, if Harrison had joined the Foxes and helped them obtain seven points, that could have been the deciding factor between relegation and survival.

Leicester is presently in second-to-last place in the Premier League, two points from safety.

Harrison’s Leeds Career Could Potentially Span Ten Years

Harrison initially joined the Whites on loan from Manchester City in 2018, before securing a permanent deal in 2021.

In 197 total appearances for the club, he has scored 33 goals, five of which have occurred this season.

Following the announcement of his contract extension deal, Leeds United’s Spanish director of football Victor Orta praised the ‘unbelievable’ Jack Harrison.

Harrison was reportedly dissatisfied with his situation in January, coming out of the first team under Jesse Marsch, which almost resulted in Leeds offloading him.

However,  the club’s sporting director Victor Orta has insisted that he remains a really crucial member of the squad.

Speaking to Leeds United’s official website, Orta praised Harrison.

“Jack is a crucial part of our squad and our plans going forwards,” the Spaniard said.

“I’m really happy he has agreed to commit his long-term future to the club,” Orta stated.

“He is one of the most professional players I have come across in my career, he has an unbelievable attitude and only wants to continue improving and I know we will see him at his peak over the duration of the next five years,” the director added.

Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest propelled Leeds to 13th place in the Premier League standings, two points above the relegation zone and it was Harrison who got his side level after they fell behind early on.

As many as nine teams are still in peril of Premier League relegation, so there is significant pressure on the winger to maintain his current level of play.

On Sunday, Javi Gracia’s squad will face 12th-place Crystal Palace in a pivotal match, so Harrison will look to score again at Elland Road.

A win for the side would be a massive boost to their hopes of staying afloat and put distance between them and the relegation zone.
