The Best Pasto vs Petrolera Prediction and Picks
Contents
Deportivo Pasto will look to blow Group A of the Colombian football post-season wide open when they take on Petrolera on Friday. A win for the home side would take them to the top of Group A and on course for the playoff final whereas a defeat would all but end their season. Ahead of the six-pointer, here are some tips and predictions to consider.
Pasto to Win
After sneaking into the post-season by finishing in the 8th position, Deportivo Pasto have started their Group A campaign with two draws. While it hasn’t been the perfect start, a win over Petrolera would make those first two initial draws seem like superb results. You have to go back to the beginning of March for the last time Pasto lost a match at home and we believe that their home fans will carry them over the line to three points once again on Friday.
Over 2.5 Goals
Games involving Petrolera are rarely low-scoring affairs. In fact, only one of their last eight games has seen less than three goals, and just last week they were involved in an eight-goal thriller with Aguilas. Although Pasto’s games are a little more conservative, we think that Petrolera’s open and expansive game plan will force the home side to come out and join in, roared on by their famous support. At odds against, this is a fantastic bet.
BTTS
In five of their last six games at home, Pasto have scored at least one goal while Petrolera have found the back of the net on each of their last seven trips away from home in all competitions. Edwar Lopez scored eight league goals for Pasto in the regular season and he will fancy his chances of adding to that tally on Friday against a leaky Petrolera defence. At the other end, Pablo Bueno has gone two for two in the opening two Group A games and will carry that momentum into this one.
Pasto vs Petrolera: A make-or-break fixture
Pasto
After losing the 2019 final, underdogs Deportivo Pasto are once again in the running to win their second Colombian title. They snuck into the post-season and have given themselves a chance to go top of their group with a win on Friday. Manager, Flabio Torres, has no injury concerns ahead of the match with Petrolera meaning his team will be able to fire everything at the current group toppers in a bid to leapfrog them in the standings.
Petrolera
After finishing 16th in the league last season, Petrolera have had a superb campaign this time around and finished 6th in the regular season standings. They ended the season quite poorly, however, losing three of their final four games, but have turned things around in the post-season, taking four points from their first two games. If they are to win this one then the possibility of their first-ever Colombian playoff final will become very real indeed.
