In a must-win game for both teams, Boyacá Chicó take on Medellin in a Categoría Primera A game in Colombia. Both teams finished inside the top eight to make it through to this stage of the competition but have started their Group stage campaigns poorly. Ahead of the match, here are some predictions and tips to consider.
Medellin to Win
Contents
Although neither side have started their post-season campaign well, Medellin at least have a small amount of momentum still with them courtesy of how they ended their regular season campaign and how they are getting on in the Copa Libertadores. They are on course to progress through to the knockout stages of the Copa thanks to a win over Nacional last week and we believe they will carry that winning feeling into this one to get the job done.
Under 2.5 Goals
While Medellin possess a small amount of momentum, Boyaca Chico are struggling for goals never mind wins. Chico are winless in their last eight fixtures and have their early season form to thank for even being in the post-season. What’s more, they haven’t scored more than one goal in a game since April which makes us believe this will be another low-scoring encounter.
Under 0.5 First-Half Goals
Although Medellin are more prolific in front of goal than Chico, they typically do most of their work in the second half of games. Three of their last five fixtures have been goalless at half time, while the same can be said for three of Chico’s last six games. Considering both teams can’t afford to lose, we expect a cagey first half and a 0-0 scoreline at half time.
Boyaca Chico vs Medellin: Losing isn’t an option
Boyaca Chico
After being promoted from Primera B last season, no one at Boyaca Chico can have any complaints about how this season has panned out even if their form has dipped in recent weeks. The prospect of continental football next season is exciting and they won’t yet have given up hope on achieving the unthinkable and reaching the playoff final for the title. They need a win here, however, if they are to have any chance of that and manager, Mario Garcia, will fancy his team’s chances.
Medellin
The five-time Primera A champions came runners up in the league last season and their hopes of reaching another playoff final are hanging by a thread after a draw and a loss in their first two group B matches. Medellin’s experience at this level could prove decisive and they will be banking on Diber Armando Cambindo, who has scored eight goals so far this season, to come up with the goods once again.
