Boca Juniors to Win
Contents
After winning the league last season, Boca Juniors have slumped down the league table this time around and currently sit in tenth position after 17 games. Despite their poor form this season, things have picked up recently and they are on the verge of winning three consecutive league fixtures for the first time this season. Playing at home in front of their famous crowd, we expect Boca to get the job done and potentially even move into the top nine if other results go their way.
Under 2.5 Goals
Neither Boca Juniors or Tigre have played particularly expansive football this season and have struggled for goals all season. The home side have just scored 21 goals so far this season in the league while Tigre are even less prolific with 17. What’s more, none of Boca Junior’s last five games in all competitions have seen more than two goals, making the under 2.5 goals market a particularly appealing one.
Half with the most goals – Second half
Although neither side have been banging them in for fun of late, they have both been better in the second half of games. Boca Junior’s last four fixtures in all competitions have all been goalless at half time while the same can be said for three of Tigre’s last seven. We expect a cagey first half and the game to open up after half time which should mean more goals in the second half.
Boca Juniors vs Tigre: A battle in Buenos Aires
Boca Juniors
After a poor start to the season, Boca Juniors parted ways with manager Hugo Ibarra in April. Ibarra was replaced by Jorge Almirón who has managed to turn the club’s fortunes around by playing a more pragmatic style of play which has made Xeneizes much tougher to play against. They are still top of their Copa Libertadores group and will be putting more attention on that competition from here on out with their league title hopes completely extinguished.
For the game against Tigre, Almiron will more than likely rotate his squad to keep his squad fresh after a grueling Copa Libertadores match with Colombian side, Pereira, in the week.
Tigre
Tigre have also failed to live up to expectations this season and Diego Martinez’s men currently languish in 14th position in the Primera Division. Tigre are in the midst of a four-match winless run in the league and they will do well to end that away at Boca Juniors on Sunday.
If they are to have any chance, then Martinez will be banking on Italian striker, Mateo Retegui, to come up with the goods once again. Retegui has scored ten league goals already this season and is joint top on the list of the league’s top scorers.
