Karen Khachanov vs Thanasi Kokkinakis Prediction and Odds: French Open 2023

The big-hitting Russian, Khachanov, is set to take on the relentless Australian, Kokkinakis, in what could be a thriller. Take a look at my tennis predictions today for this match right here.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Khachanov vs Kokkinakis – Match Predictions

In my opinion, Karen Khachanov is one of the most improved clay court tennis players over the last few years. For a big man, he certainly moves well on the dirt, and he is very clever with his shot selection when building the point. Then again, Thanasi Kokkinakis has very similar traits on a tennis court, and he has earned a couple of big wins to reach the third round this year.

Predictions Roland Garros

As for the best betting markets to shoot for with regard to this particular match, I’ve given my two cents below.

Kokkinakis to Win a Set

Because Kokkinakis is such a battler on the court, I think that it is fully possible that he takes his set from Khachanov. He just has that knack for sticking in the point and making things tough when it counts. This has already been shown in his previous two wins at Roland Garros.

Over 37.5 Games

Given that I am shooting for Kokkinakis to take at least one set in this match, there is every chance that the match will consist of more than 37.5 games. This may seem like a lot, but even one tight set gets you a third of the way there. And if Kokkinakis does indeed win one set, the chances of this occurring are naturally quite high.

Khachanov vs Kokkinakis Preview

Moving away from these ATP French Open predictions now, let’s perform a quick preview for both guys.

Karen Khachanov Preview

Although Khachanov is seen primarily as a guy that is better on fast courts, he is quite a dangerous clay court player. With a big serve and a heavy forehand, he can make things very awkward for most players on this surface. In addition, he is the 11th seed at Roland Garros, and he had a fairly easy match in his last round. Therefore, he will be fresh for this clash.

Thanasi Kokkinakis Preview

Kokkinakis Is currently ranked outside of the top 100 in the world. When you compare that with number 11 for Khachanov, the level of these guys may seem like night and day. And while I don’t believe that the difference in level is accurately reflected in the rankings, Khachanov has certainly been more consistent at the highest level.

Then again, Kokkinakis did beat a former champion in the form of Wawrinka in his last round. Yet this was a gruelling battle, and he will be feeling it I’m sure.

Khachanov vs Kokkinakis Head to Head

Considering that these two guys have been around for quite a while, it is surprising to see that they have only played each other once. This was all the way back in 2018 – a game that Khachanov won in straight sets. Interestingly, this match was played on clay.
