Once again, he won the hearts of the home crowd with the opening round win against Sebastian Baez. The match lasted 3 hours and 51 minutes, and Monfils won 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5, and barely stood on his legs at the end. Monfils has no significant result this season, and his best result at the French Open was the semifinal in 2008.
