Ymer vs Ruud – Match Predictions
Contents
Casper Ruud is hoping to replicate his success at the 2022 French Open this year. He made the finals in 2022 before losing to Nadal. Yet he hasn’t been in the greatest form throughout the 2023 season so far. Elias Ymer will be looking to take advantage of this as he takes on the 4th seed in the opening round.
Since Ymer has qualified, this means he has already won three matches at Roland Garros this year. So will it be a case of the qualifier taking down a giant, or will Casper Ruud destroy his lower-ranked opponent? Check out my predictions here.
Ymer to Win a Set – Yes
This might seem like an ambitious shout to some of you, so allow me to explain. Ruud hasn’t been in the best form in 2023, and Ymer already has three match wins under his belt. Furthermore, it’s normal for even the top guys to have some nerves in the opening round of a slam. So I can see Ymer taking the opening set in this match, although he just needs to win any set for this bet to pull through.
Over 31.5 Games
Assuming Ymer is able to grab a set, I would then be confident in the match running over 31.5 games in total. That’s because while Ymer could snag a set, ultimately, I believe that Ruud will win the match. He’s just too consistent on clay for a guy like Ymer.
Ymer vs Ruud Preview
Even the top French Open seeds deserve a preview to let you know what they are capable of. And since the 4th seed is playing against Ymer here, it makes sense to quickly cover both guys.
Elias Ymer Preview
Ymer is surprisingly effective on clay when he wants to be. He didn’t drop a single set in qualifying, and he has recently beaten guys like Machac and Hanfmann on the dirt. Therefore, while he might be just 155 in the world, he’s clearly got some game.
Casper Ruud Preview
Casper Ruud has been shaky in the top clay court events this year. However, as the top guys tend to do, he started to show form at the Italian Open, making the semi-finals. With that said, he did take a surprise loss to Jarry last week – a player ranked outside of the top 50. But as the 4th seed and previous runner-up at the French Open, I feel he won’t lose the opener here.
Ymer vs Ruud Head to Head
There is no head-to-head history between these guys, officially. But Ruud did actually beat Ymer outside of an official main draw back in 2019. So off the record, he would have a 1-0 lead over his Swedish opponent.
