Los Angeles FC vs LA Galaxy H2H: The story so far

The two sides have met 20 times in total and in contrast to the recent league form, LA Galaxy is the team edging the fixture with 9 wins as compared to LAFC’s 6.

  • LA Galaxy Wins: 9
  • Draws: 5
  • Los Angeles FC Wins: 6

Despite the Galaxy edging the overall H2H record in the fixture, it is the Black and Gold who have the upper hand in the recent clashes, as they have won three out of last five games between the sides.

One constant in the El Tráfico has been goals, with the last 8 clashes having featured a minimum of two goals between the teams. The trend can be expected to continue here, so assuming that there would be goals at either end is a safe bet.

History in the making

While it may sound surprising, there has never been a scoreless tie among the 20 clashes between the city rivals. The contrasting league form and turbo charged derby atmosphere means that this terrific trend is likely to continue, which will only delight the neutrals.

Los Angeles FC vs LA Galaxy: Last five H2H matches

Whatever the league position of the two teams, the derby has always been unpredictable, as shown by the fact that Los Galácticos have won the last two games despite the Black and Gold being far higher in the points table.

LA Galaxy 2 – 1 Los Angeles FC (05/07/2023): A brilliant performance from former Barcelona prodigy Riqui Puig who scored a goal and created another, saw Los Galácticos beat their rivals in a pulsating 2-1 game. Tyler Boyd opened the scoring early, against the run of play in the 26th minute.

Sáncéz Farrés deservedly equalized in the 57th minute, and then MoTM Puig settled the game with an extraordinary solo effort.

Los Angeles FC 0 – 2 LA Galaxy (24/05/2023): Another game that was settled by goals from the dynamic duo of Puig and Boyd. It was again the former Burnley boy Boyd who got the first goal in the 49th minute, this time coming off the bench at half-time.

Puig joined in 3 minutes later as he scored the decisive goal of the game to cap off a wonderful midfield display.

LA Galaxy 2 – 3 Los Angeles FC (17/04/2023): The Black and Gold won a thriller at the Dignity Health Sports Park thanks to an otherworldly performance by their poster boy Carlos Vela.

The Mexican scored the equalizer after LAFC’s bogeyman Boyd opened the scoring for the Galaxies and then repeated the trick to give his team the lead. He then created the third which Ryan Hollingshead scored. Marco Delgado got Los Galácticos a consolation goal, but LAFC had locked their win by then.

Los Angeles FC 3 – 2 LA Galaxy (21/10/2022): Yet another goal fest that delighted the fans was won by the Black and Gold at the death. Denis Bouanga got his team into the lead but Samuel Grandsir equalized quickly. Bouanga wouldn’t give up though, as he got his and his team’s second at the 80th minute.

The game had plenty of drama left and Dejan Joveljic thought he had nicked a point with his 85th minute goal. However, Cristian Arango had the final say as he slammed home a 90th minute winner to send the home fans into bedlam.

Los Angeles FC 3 – 2 LA Galaxy (09/07/2023): The first game in the string of three five goal thrillers saw Mexican superstar Vela dominate another El Tráfico, this time even without scoring.

Jose Cifuentes scored the first goal before Grandsir equalized, but Cifuentes, assisted by Vela, took the lead back again. Vela created another goal, this time for Arango and despite a late fightback attempt led by Rayan Ravelson, LAFC ran out 3-2 winners.

LA Galaxy 4-3 LAFC: Zlatan’s debut double seals stunning comeback

The great Zlatan Ibrahimovic announcing his MLS arrival with a stunning 10 mins cameo off the bench to score two goals, including the iconic 40 yarder, to help Los Galácticos seal a 4-3 comeback from 3-0 down remains one of the most memorable moments in MLS history.

Final prediction

Recent form, history everything goes out of the window in El Tráfico, however the gulf of class as reflected by the points table may be too much for Galaxies this time. We expect LAFC to win the game 2-1 with Carlos Vela opening the scoring.
