English Premier League sides Arsenal and Aston Villa are both interested in bringing Spanish forward Ferran Torres back to the English top flight during the summer transfer window, according to the latest reports.

The 23-year-old has been a mainstay for Barcelona in 2022-23, making 41 appearances across all competitions and contributing seven goals and two assists and the Blaugrana are now destined for yet another La Liga title win this season.

Torres still has four years remaining on his contract at Camp Nou, having signed a lengthy agreement with the Catalan club upon his January 2022 transfer from Manchester City.

Torres Future Uncertain As Barcelona Come to Terms With Financial Pressures

However, his future is presently the subject of rumors, as Barcelona are under pressure to sell first-team players in the upcoming transfer window due to their financial difficulties.

According to football outlet talkSPORT, both Arsenal and Villa are monitoring the situation closely, with both clubs interested in signing him during the summer transfer window in order to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.

The report states that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is a long-time admirer of Torres, but Villa are also in the running, with Mateu Alemany due to leave his position as director of football at Barcelona and move to Villa Park.

Allegedly, the transfer of Alemany to Villa would place Unai Emery’s side in contention for Torres, who has scored four goals and provided one assist in 29 La Liga appearances this season.

Torres Next Career Stop Likely To Be In England

The Spain international began his professional career with Valencia, where he appeared 97 times in all competitions before joining Man City in August 2020.

Torres played 43 times for Pep Guardiola’s squad, netting 16 goals and registering four assists, before rejoining Barcelona at the beginning of 2022.

Arsenal, who are presently competing with Manchester City for the Premier League title, are expected to add at least one new forward during the upcoming transfer window.

Torres’ capacity to play in multiple positions would make him a valuable addition for the Gunners, but Villa appears to be a formidable opponent.

The team coached by Unai Emery has won eight of their last eleven league matches, placing them in eighth position in the table, one point behind sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

In order for Barcelona to re-sign Lionel Messi on a free transfer this summer, the club’s wage budget must be reduced.

Torres has struggled to secure frequent starting positions for Barcelona in the most recent games of this season, with 16 of his 29 league appearances coming off the bench.

Next the Blaugrana face inter-city rivals Espanyol away from home in their quest to secure another LA Liga title, which would be the first major trophy for the club uncer the guidance of Xavi’s management.

Torres is unlikely to start for the side with Robert Lewandowski the anointed man up front for Barca in recent months. However, the Sapniard will look to make an impact off the bench as he did last week against Osasuna.
