Erling Haaland is reportedly closing in on a move to Manchester City. The Borussia Dortmund star has dominated the transfer headlines for some time now.
But it all looks like it is finally coming to a close. Premier League giants City have seemingly won the lengthy race for his signature. The lethal forward will boost their phenomenal squad even further.
It’s worth remembering that young striker Julian Alvarez will also soon be a City player. The Argentinian is currently back on loan at River Plate. He was signed on a five-and-a-half-year contract in January.
But all of the talk now surrounds Haaland. The Norwegian is expected to arrive this summer. He will undoubtedly walk straight into the central role of Guardiola’s front three.
Where then does that leave the club’s other forwards? The Manchester City boss has experimented with many different attackers in many different positions this season.
The likes of Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden will more than likely be kept for the long-term. Midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan – who have even been used up top – also look set to stay at the Etihad.
But which City forwards could leave the club this summer upon Haaland’s arrival?
Bernardo Silva
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona want to bring Silva to Spain. Xavi is keen on landing an experienced midfielder to play alongside Pedri.
Importantly, the report suggests that Frenkie de Jong could be part of a potential swap deal. And Guardiola is a fan of the young Netherlands international. Could the City boss be tempted to let Silva go in exchange for the ex-Ajax man?
Gabriel Jesus
The Brazilian has certainly stepped it up in recent matches. He has six goals in his last five Manchester City matches. It has taken his tally to 13 for the season.
Arsenal could be a potential destination for the talented striker. The Gunners need a player with his capabilities. And importantly, he would be guaranteed a regular starting spot in North London. This has not been the case at City.
Raheem Sterling
Sterling is another to have upped his game in recent weeks. The winger is now back in Guardiola’s mindset. He found the back of the net twice in the recent league victory against Newcastle.
Again, Arsenal are the club with the strongest links to the forward. He would undoubtedly improve Mikel Arteta’s front line. Sterling’s contract with City expires next summer, and so the club could look to cash in on the player before it is too late.
Liam Delap
With all the attacking talents at Guardiola’s disposal, it’s almost impossible for an academy player to break into the first team. Academy graduate Delap has done just that. But he has just eight minutes of Premier League action to his name this season.
Further minutes have arrived in the Champions League and FA Cup. But that was just five minutes and 13 minutes respectively. The 19-year-old may be one for the future, but perhaps that future lies away from the Etihad.
