This morning, the fixtures for the 2023/24 Premier League season were unveiled with fans up and down the country eager to find out their team’s schedules for the season ahead. For Manchester United fans, the upcoming season is one filled with hope after a positive debut campaign under Erik Ten Hag.

Ten Hag will look to build on the progress he made during year one at Old Trafford by bringing in some fresh faces this summer, and the club have already been linked with a whole host of names. They reportedly made their first official bid for Mason Mount yesterday, while links to Jordan Pickford and Harry Kane persevere.

Whoever United do end up signing this summer will hope to be through the door at Carrington before the opening game of the season because the Red Devils have been given a home fixture with Wolverhampton Wanderers to kickstart their campaign. They will play Julen Lopetegui’s side in the first Monday night fixture of the season which will round off the opening gameweek.

United’s first five fixtures are as follows:

  • 14/08/23 – Wolves (H)
  • 19/08/23 – Tottenham (A)
  • 26/08/23 – Nottingham Forest (H)
  • 02/09/23 – Arsenal (A)
  • 16/09/23 – Brighton (H)

A tricky run-in on the cards

If all goes to plan this season, then Manchester United may well find themselves in a title race come the end of the season. To do that, they will almost certainly need a few signings, but Ten Hag’s intention going into the new campaign will be to get his side in contention throughout the campaign.

In 2022/23, United started the season poorly and lost their opening two fixtures and they also ended it with some clumsy results, including back-to-back defeats away at Brighton and West Ham which dragged them back into a fight for the top four.

Ten Hag’s men played more matches than anyone in Europe’s top five leagues last season which certainly contributed to the fatigue in the run-in, but the experience of that should hold them in good stead when they get to April next season.

They will need to be on top form, too, as the fixture generator hasn’t been too kind to them in relation to their run-in.

Their final five league fixtures are as follows:

  • 20/04/24 – Newcastle United (H)
  • 27/04/24 – Burnley (H)
  • 04/05/24 – Crystal Palace (A)
  • 11/05/24 – Arsenal (H)
  • 19/05/24 – Brighton (A)

Key fixtures to put in your diary

When the fixtures are announced each season, there are a couple of fixtures that Manchester United fans look for straight away. Their four biggest matches of the season are typically the four they play against Manchester City and Liverpool and this season will be no different.

In recent season, you could have added Leeds to that mix too but after the Yorkshire club were relegated from the Premier League last season, the two old rivals won’t be playing against each other next campaign unless they draw each other in the cup.

Another highlight for English football fans is the festive period, with particular attention paid to the Boxing Day fixtures. Next season, United will face Aston Villa at Home on Boxing Day.

Manchester United’s key 2023/24 fixtures:

  • 28/10/23 – Manchester City (H)
  • 16/12/23 – Liverpool (A)
  • 26/12/23 – Aston Villa (H)
  • 02/03/24 – Manchester City (A)
  • 06/04/24 – Liverpool (H)
