Inter Miami vs Nashville predicted lineups and news

It is a busy week for the MLS with everybody playing two games and squad rotation and load management will be key for both coaches. Inter Miami have a long flight to Los Angeles after this game which could impact Tata Martino’s team selection. Nashville manager Gary Smith admitted in the pre-match press conference that “it will be a very, very difficult test in their own backyard” even though he was pleased with the side’s performance in the recent Leagues Cup Final. The game will be broadcast around the world via Apple TV+ with plenty of attention on one of the world’s biggest stars.

Team news: Inter Miami

Gerardo Martino spoke to press outside the training ground earlier this week and hinted strongly that both Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets would return to the starting lineup having only appeared from the bench against New York RB. Without the former Barcelona pair they lined up in a surprising 5-4-1 with Jordi Alba the main outlet on the left and Noah Allen in an unfamiliar role as a centreback.

Jean Mota has been training regularly with the side but there is still no indication that the Brazilian will return for this match, meaning Dixon Arroyo is likely to continue in central midfield. Gregore has also suffered a set back and won’t be available for selection until at least October. It is assumed that Martino will return to his favoured 4-3-3 system for this game with a similar side that we saw in the Leagues Cup Final.

Team news: Nashville SC

Former Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge has started life well in Tennessee with three goals in his opening five games and will certainly look to challenge Miller and Kryvtsov in the Miami defence. As expected he will continue his partnership with Germany’s Hany Mukhtar who currently leads the scoring charts in the MLS regular season.

In the Leagues Cup Final we saw Smith play with a two anchors with Anibal Godoy and Dax McCarthy – the latter was rested in the recent 4-0 thrashing by Atlanta so expect him to return in South Florida. Central defender Walker Zimmerman missed the last game with an injury and he will have to be at his best to try and stop Inter Miami’s lethal strikeforce, if the 30-year-old US international isn’t fully fit don’t expect him to start.
