Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas go head to head in the Texas derby on Saturday night at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. Since the first meeting in 2006, there have been over 150 goals in this thrilling rivalry.
This Saturday marks the 51st official meeting between the sides, but which side has the balance of power tipping in their favour?

The inaugural showdown was a seven-goal shootout at the University of Houston’s Robertson Stadium back in 2006. The locals got off to a flying 3-0 start, but a second half rally from the travellers from the North almost evened things up, the Dynamo ran out 4-3 winners.
The orange army reigned supreme in those early years, Brian Ching put Dallas to the sword on several occasions. But the scales shifted around ten years ago when the Cows strung together an unprecedented seven wins between 2013 and 2017.
- Houston Dynamo wins: 15
- Draws: 18
- FC Dallas wins: 18
The current General Manager of Houston Dynamo, Pat Onstad, holds the record for the most clean sheets (5). However, the last six matches have all seen both teams scoring, meaning his record is in safe hands for now.
History in the making
Brian Ching, Kenny Cooper and Ricardo Clark have scored six goals in the Texas derby, more than any other players. But the Colombian midfielder Jáder Obrian has notched up four since joining in 2021, the diminutive 28-year-old is predicted to play on Saturday. Could he shock the home crowd and grab two goals to tie the record?
One stat that is going to be hard to match is Fafá Picault’s feat, the Haitian sensation scored in back-to-back Texas derby games for different teams! He was on target for FC Dallas at the Toyota Stadium in 2020, the next season he popped up for goal with the Dynamo at the same venue.

Houston Dynamo vs FC Dallas final prediction
There is no doubt this will be a hotly contested game in Texas’s biggest town, with the playoff race and the battle for El Capitán on the line. Houston are on a high following their fabulous US Open Cup Final victory, and they have been very strong at home.
Ben Olsen’s team are unbeaten in eight of their last nine MLS matches in H-Town, winning six of those matches. You also have to go back to 2016 to find the last time Dallas celebrated at the Shell Energy Stadium (then the BBVA Compass Stadium).
Houston are on a high, but there will be tired legs after Wednesday’s excursion. They should still have enough in the tank to take this Texas derby, but it will be a close match. 2-1.
