Ukraine to win

Ukraine had a good run in the European Championships, they got to the quarter-final, losing out to eventual finalists England. The Blue and Yellow have no losses in five games they’ve played since then and they’ve held their own against teams like France and Czech Republic in that five game stretch. Bulgaria meanwhile have won just three of their last 13 games, and those wins were at home. You’d have to go all the way back to June 2018 to find the last time Bulgaria won on the road; even then, that was Bulgaria’s only away win in the last five years. Considering how poor Bulgaria have been on the road, the obvious prediction is for Ukraine to win.

Both sides to score

This is more of a “both teams to concede” prediction rather than both teams to score; Ukraine have done a terrible job of keeping clean sheets, they’ve conceded in all of their last ten games. Oleksandr Petrakov’s men have scored their fair share of goals, they’ve scored in all of their last five games. Similarly, Bulgaria have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches; just like Ukraine, they’ve scored in all of their last five games. Considering both teams have scored in all of Ukraine’s last five, and four of Bulgaria’s last four games, we should expect goals at both ends.

A HT/FT win for the hosts

Our last pick for this match will be on the HT/FT market. We mentioned how Ukraine have scored in their last five games; well, it’s worth noting that they’ve scored first in those five games. The Blue and Yellow have been leading at half-time in all of those five games. In the same vein, Bulgaria have conceded first in five of their last seven games; they’ve also conceded first in all of their last four road games. Considering Bulgaria have been losing at half-time in their last two games, we think Ukraine will have the lead at half-time and that they’ll see it through to FT.

Ukraine vs Bulgaria: Meet the nations

Ukraine

Ukraine are a tough team to beat and that’s supported by the fact they’re unbeaten in seven World Cup qualifying games. Despite that they’re not yet qualified owing to the fact they draw a lot of games. With the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Viktor Tsygankov in their team, they should be too strong here.

Bulgaria

Already it’s mathematically impossible for Bulgaria to qualify for the World Cup; The Lavovete are third in Group C, six points behind second place, with just one game left to play. That means they can pour everything into this game and Yasen Petrov’s men will fancy their chances of getting the win today. Kiril Despodov is the man to watch.
