There has been a fair bit of talk this week about Steven Gerrard walking away from Rangers to join the new moneybags of the Premier League. It doesn’t look likely to happen but St Mirren’s best chance might be if Rangers have taken their eye off the ball this week. Is a shock on the cards? Find out with our St Mirren vs Rangers preview here along with the predictions and free tips we mention along the way.

St Mirren’s unbeaten run ends here
St Mirren’s unbeaten run currently stands at six games after three draws and three wins. We think it will end as they entertain Rangers. Simply put, Rangers are exponentially better player for player compared to their hosts and as long as they do their jobs, they’ll win the match. It’s that last point we made that is key with, as mentioned, Gerrard being linked with jobs in England. A look over the head to head record should give you enough insight into why we think Rangers will win – they’ve lost to St Mirren once in 10 attempts.
Both teams to score goals
Our next tip is that both teams will score in this match. St Mirren have scored in each of their last four matches racking up a total goal haul of nine goals in that time. Rangers have scored in each of their last seven league matches and have conceded in five of those matches. With St Mirren scoring a fair few goals of late and Rangers far from solid, we think this bet looks like a really decent shout.
There will be goals
With our first two predictions ticking the boxes of Rangers to win and both teams to score you may well have picked up that there will be a minimum of three goals if both of those tips come in. We think there will be. Rangers’ form doesn’t necessarily lead you down that path with the fact only one of their last five games in all competitions have gone over 2.5. St Mirren’s, however, does. They’ve gone over 2.5 in three of their last five matches with a game average of 3.0 goals per game.

St Mirren vs Rangers: Team News
St Mirren
St Mirren man Eamonn Brophy is without question the clubs’ shining light right now. He’s scored three goals in this campaign already and netted in his last two games as well. If he can help them to a result here then they’ll be looking into the top half of the table before you know it after making a reasonable start to the new calendar.
Rangers
Aside from the fact that Rangers sit top of the tree after nine matches they’ll be delighted to hear that Ryan Jack and Ryan Kent could come into Gerrard’s thinking for this match. Beyond that, this game just needs them to do what they do. They can play, they can fight and we think they’ve got the nerve too.
