Sporting CP to hold aloft silverware

The Super Cup is much more widely respected in Europe as opposed to in England with Sporting CP and Sporting Braga both desperate to win it rather than treating the match as a glorified friendly; that helps from a prediction perspective and, as such, we think Sporting CP will win the match – either in 90 minutes or otherwise. Sporting Braga are in good form having gone unbeaten in 13 but seven of those have been draws; that’s too many. Sporting CP meanwhile are a winning machine with eight wins in their last 10; they’ve also beat Sporting Braga in the last three meetings.

A low scoring match

There might be a trophy on the line but that doesn’t mean the match will be full of goals; in fact, we suspect it could be rather low scoring. Sporting Braga have seen four of their last five matches come in under the 2.5 mark with a total goal haul of seven; that’s an average of just xxx. Sporting CP have been involved in more high scoring matches of late but they’ve largely been friendly games. If you look to their last competitive matches then three of five ended under the 2.5 cut off with the last four head to head games all failing to go above two goals as well. You can even look further out on the h2h front but only three of the last 10 games have seen three plus goals.

At least one team will fail to hit the net

We have made the prediction that Sporting CP will lift the trophy but 0-0 at 90 minutes isn’t completely out of the question and Sporting Braga blanking is highly plausible. The last four head to head games have ended with one side failing to score; three games were won to nil by Sporting CP with Sporting Braga grabbing a 1-0 in the other. In broader form, six of Sporting Braga’s last 10 have seen at least one team fail to score whilst it’s five in 10 for Sporting CP.

Sporting CP vs Sporting Braga: An all round snoozefest

Sporting CP

Simply put, everyone will be expecting Sporting CP to win this match. They had a great season last year and, if pre-season is anything to go by, they’ll be the team to beat in the coming campaign with four friendly games faced without defeat. The last five matches have seen Sporting CP offer up a goals scored column of 14 goals; Pedro Goncalves is the goal scoring midfielder to keep an eye on.

Sporting Braga

If Sporting CP are favourites then, obviously, Sporting Braga are underdogs. They won’t mind that tag too much though. They are on a 13 game unbeaten streak and whilst draws have featured heavily, they’re unlikely to be turned over, which is backed up by the head to head record. If former Sporting CP man Paulo Oliveira and co can keep things tight at the back then there is every chance of Sporting Braga creating a few hearts in mouths moments for their opponents.
