AZ to Win

Everyone is waiting to see how AZ cope this season without star attacking duo Myron Boadu and Calvin Stengs, who both left the Eredivisie for Ligue 1 in the summer, though Alkmaar’s head-to-head record against RKC suggests they won’t miss that electric pair on Saturday. AZ have won each of their last six encounters with RKC and that dominant sequence means they are worth backing to claim maximum points this weekend.

Both Teams to Score

RKC snatched a consolation goal when they last faced AZ in May and their run of scoring at least once in 11 of their last 13 fixtures at the Mandemakers Stadion indicates that they could impact the scoresheet again. In addition, BTTS landed in nine of AZ’s last 13 Eredivisie away games and the same market appeals on Saturday as a result.

Albert Gudmundsson to Score Anytime

Icelandic attacker Albert Gudmundsson will have to shoulder greater goalscoring responsibility in the AZ team now that Stengs and Boadu have departed and we’re tipping the 24-year-old to hit the ground running against RKC. Gudmundsson found the net home and away against the same opponents last term, making him a prime candidate to make his mark again this week.

RKC vs AZ: Match Preview

RKC

RKC beat the drop by the skin of their teeth last season when they avoided relegation by goal difference, though they will hope for an improvement in 2021/22 with a new manager at the helm. Former Vitesse assistant Joseph Oosting was chosen as the man to replace Fred Grim – who is now in charge at Willem II. Osting has a job on his hands to mastermind a higher league than his predecessor however after a number of senior RKC players left the club in the summer.

AZ

AZ have occupied a position in the Eredivisie’s top three in three of the last four seasons, though their chances of emulating that success could prove tough in 2021/22. Alkmaar lost talented young guns Myron Boadu and Calvin Stengs in the summer – players who chipped in with a combined 28 goal contributions last term. Former Willem II hotshot Vangelis Pavlidis was signed to fill one of the gaps up front, though AZ are still expected to be far less explosive in attack this year.
