Millwall to see off lower league challenge

Millwall had started the season in decent enough shape with three games unbeaten across all competitions but two defeats on the spin have quickly changed that dynamic to read as four league games without a win. Cambridge are hardly flying either though with three draws and a defeat in their last five. You have to remember they’re in a division lower too. On top of that, Cambridge also have a pretty horrific record in their past meetings with Millwall; they last met in 2018 with Millwall winning 2-0. You have to go back to 1992 for the last time Cambridge beat their hosts.

Goals, lots of goals

Our next tip looks to the total goals market. We’re anticipating a few goals as the two teams lock horns. Millwall have gone over 2.5 goals in three of their last four matches with a game average of 3.0 goals. Cambridge’s form on the goals market appears on the up over the last few matches too; their last three matches have seen a total of eight goals, which is an average of 2.7 per match.

Millwall should win with room to spare

We’ve already backed Millwall to win the match but we’ll go one step further now and suggest they’ll do so with at least one goals worth of breathing space. Millwall have already faced a League One side this season in Portsmouth; they only won 2-1 in that match but mustered a total of 21 shots and on another day, would have scored a lot more. Considering Portsmouth are expected to compete at the top of the League One table and Cambridge are likely to be in a relegation battle, Millwall should be able to stroll through.

Millwall vs Cambridge: Millwall to ease through

Millwall

Millwall might have lost their last two matches but defeat to Fulham and an away defeat to an in-form Cardiff side is hardly a major disgrace in what is a highly competitive league. Their head to head record against Cambridge reads extremely well; they haven’t faced each other too much in recent years though. As for the XI Gary Rowett is likely to name, we’re expecting a strong side with the likes of Scott Malone, Benik Afobe and Jed Wallace all to start.

Cambridge

In a strange way, Cambridge winning their last match 3-0 against Burton might have lessened their chances of knocking Millwall out. When form is poor a cup fixture can be seen as a distraction. Now though, Cambridge have just chalked up their first three points of the season and would much rather have another league game to play. With Bolton – a side that won promotion with them last year – up next a few changes will be made to the team. Can they really afford to weaken themselves?
