PSG to take the title
Lille might have won Ligue 1 last year but their pre-season form is nothing like that of champions having won just one of their last five games with three defeats and a draw in their last four. PSG meanwhile haven’t lost in 10 games if you go back to the end of last season; they’ve won six of them matches too. The head to head record leans in favour of PSG too hence we expect them to see off the challenge of Lille; it might not be settled in 90 minutes though hence our prediction is based on lifting the trophy.
PSG to keep it clean at the back
Although our first prediction backs PSG to lift the trophy we’ve not hidden the fact things could well be tight. Part of that is because Lille had the best defence in Ligue 1 last season but the other aspect is that their goal scoring has fallen off a cliff during pre-season. They’ve not scored in their last two matches and have blanked in three of their last four. PSG meanwhile are no fools at the back; they’ve kept five clean sheets in eight. As the head to head record goes, PSG have kept four clean sheets in five.
Icardi to score anytime
When games are tight you need the instinctive, poacher type forward to win you the match. PSG have that in Mauro Icardi; Icardi scored 13 goals last season with an average of a goal every 130 minutes. It is form he’s continued during pre-season too with four goals in five outings. On top of that, the former Inter star bagged in the Coupe de France against Lille last year and also opened the scoring in this match a year ago.

Lille vs PSG: Ligue 1 Champions to come unstuck
Lille were in fantastic form last season but their league success looks a long while ago now. Their pre-season hasn’t gone to plan at all; defeats against Gent, Benfica and Porto hardly the measure of a side that are ready to go up against a pretty lethal PSG side. Lille did beat PSG last time out though and if they can get their backline organised again then in Burak Yilmaz they have a man who can win them the match.
PSG changed manager last season and whilst the remainder of the season didn’t go to plan they ended the campaign in good form; that’s continued in pre-season both on and off the pitch with a series of good results and big name signings. Sergio Ramos will miss this match through injury but they will consider themselves good enough to get one over their title rival early on in the season. It could set the tone for the campaign ahead.
