Larne to win again

In the first leg, Larne took an early lead and weren’t exactly hanging on as Bala Town looked to get back on terms. With the fact they now have home advantage, a first leg lead and a just generally in better form anything but another Larne win looks unlikely. Larne have lost just one of their last five games winning three and drawing the other. Bala Town meanwhile have lost three including their last two. They’ve also lost their last two away matches.

A low scoring match

Aside from the fact that four of Larne’s last five matches have gone over 2.5 goals, everything else suggests this match is destined to come in south of the three goal mark. For starters, the last meeting ended with just the solitary goal. Beyond that though, the last three Bala Town games have all fell short of the 2.5 cut off. With Larne having an advantage, they won’t be uber adventurous whilst Bala Town won’t cut them open for fun either. A goal with one or two goals maximum looks pretty nailed on.

Both teams will not net in this match

On top of our prediction that this will be a low scoring match, we also think it will end with at least one team failing to score. Obviously, Bala Town blanked when they met in the first leg but their overall form suggests we should expect more of the same; they’ve only seen both teams score in one of their last five matches – their last four have seen at least one team record a clean sheet. Larne will be hoping it’s them again after their meeting last week.

Larne vs Bala Town: Larne to progress

Larne

Larne ended last season well, had a mixed couple of friendly games before beating Bala Town last time out. A victory away from home in the last match will give them huge confidence they can complete the job on their own patch. Rohan Ferguson will be hoping for another shutout whilst frontman David McDaid will be aiming to bang in another goal – as he did after just two minutes last time.

Bala Town

Bala Town arrive in this match against Larne knowing the tie is very much still alive. They gave away an early goal last time out, which is the last thing you need to do when confidence is fragile from a pretty weak run of form. Now, they have a job to do. It’s not impossible but they’ll need a big showing from their experienced striker and captain Chris Venables whilst former Wolves man David Edwards will be asked to try and control the midfield.
