Iran to maintain 100% start
Both Iran and Korea Republic have been in tremendous form of late. Iran have won their last 10 games whilst Korea Republic have registered seven wins and a draw from their last 10 meaning they’ve lost just twice. It is those two blemishes that make us lean towards Iran though; it’s been a long time since the hosts have lost a game of football and they have the better head to head record too having won the last meetings on home soil. Korea Republic would take a draw now but we don’t see them getting it.
A low scoring match
Our next betting tip is that this game will be a low scoring one with the total goals coming in south of 2.5 goals. We’ve already touched on the form of both sides being good across the 10 game view but that doesn’t mean there has been loads of goals. Now, both have seen over half of their last 10 go over 2.5 and there have been a couple of huge wins for both sides in that period, which takes their average goals per game well over 2.5 but it doesn’t tell the whole story. You have to go back to 2004 – 13 games – for the last time a meeting between these two served up three or more goals.
1-0 will do the job
Right, we close our predictions with a correct score tip of 1-0 to Iran. They are on a terrific run of form and winning is a habit that isn’t easily broken; that’s particularly true when your form is built on a solid foundation and Iran have conceded just two goals across their last 10. South Korea don’t concede loads either but, with the exception of the occasional game against cannon fodder, they don’t score loads either. They’ve not netted in any of their last four visits to Iran and have lost the last three 1-0.

Iran vs Korea Republic: Team Overview
Iran
Iran have started this qualifying campaign like a slickly oiled machine. They’re winning games, they’re not conceding goals and they’re playing well to boot. It really is a microcosm of their general form across all competitions and they’ll be buzzing at the prospect of hosting Korea Republic. In terms of the players to watch it’s all about Porto man Mehdi Taremi; he’s scored double figures in his last two Liga NOS campaigns and already has four in eight this season.
Korea Republic
In most other games Korea Republic would arrive as the form team with an unbeaten run of six games (five wins and a draw) and just two defeats in 10 but not here. Despite that, they’ll still be in a confident mood having made a good start to qualifying. Is there a mental barrier to overcome given their poor record in Iran? Only they will know. Either way, they’ll be looking at Son Heung-Min to get them a result.
