Hull vs Wigan – Free Betting Tips & Predictions

Hull started their campaign back in the Championship in spectacular fashion following a 4-1 success over Preston North End. Despite a strong preseason, Wigan Athletic ended up losing 2-1 to Sunderland in their opening League One game.

The odds presented here are always subject to change. One should check with the bookmaker before placing the bet. These odds are provided by Betfred, our recommended bookmaker for the big game.

Hull City win

Hull will be bouncing after the strong opening day victory over Preston. Hull also have a strong record in the League Cup after having consistently gone past the first round for the last decade. Wigan boss Leam Richardson has never been able to beat Hull City or Grant McCann in his career. Wigan, though, will be deflated as even signings like Charlie Wyke were unable to get team out of trouble.

Total goals over 2.5

This match promises a lot of goals going by the recent history between Hull City and Wigan. The last two matches between these two clubs have ended with an 8-1 aggregate score in favour of Hull. After the relatively big win over Preston, it is easy to see that the home team will be in a buoyant mood.

Both teams to score – yes

Wigan do have a good record in away matches against Hull City after scoring in the last three away games against the club. Hull had to come back in the game against Preston after conceding an early goal. Despite the opening day win, there are still some troubles for the newly-promoted Championship outfit.

Hull vs Wigan: Preview of the EFL Cup Game

Hull

Hull City will be looking to extend their wonderful EFL Cup record after having not failed to get past the first round since the 2011-12 campaign. Despite an indifferent pre-season, Grant McCann saw his team start the new campaign with a flourish after a 4-1 success. There are no fitness concerns for McCann ahead of this game.

Wigan

Despite a lot of positivity ahead of the new campaign, Wigan’s 2-1 loss against Sunderland raises question marks about Leam Richardson. The upcoming League One match against Rotherham United will also divert some of the attention for the Latics, as it could be a crucial match in the promotion race. Gwion Edwards is the only player unavailable for Richardson.
