Wigan to Win
Title-chasing Wigan will be determined to straighten their path following a three-game wobble and a meeting with out-of-form Argyle offers them a chance to gain a steadying win. Plymouth have won only once in their last five attempts in League One and the alarming drop off in their attacking output (one goal in five) should allow Wigan to outgun them at the DW Stadium. The hosts can secure the title with a victory and we don’t expect them to disappoint.
Under 2.5 Goals
As we alluded to in our first prediction this week, Plymouth have looked worryingly toothless in recent weeks and Steven Schumacher’s charges have managed to notch just once in their last 450 minutes of league football. At the opposite end, Argyle still aren’t conceding many however, so back under 2.5 goals to hit the net for their sixth fixture on the spin.
Will Keane to Score Anytime
Will Keane’s midweek brace against Ipswich put him level with Morecambe’s Cole Stockton in the race to land League One’s Golden Boot this term and the red-hot striker can add to his 23-goal haul for the campaign against Plymouth on Saturday. Keane scored in the reverse fixture between the clubs in November and he can take aim at the same defence this weekend.
Wigan vs Plymouth Match Preview and Team News
Wigan
James McClean, Curtis Tilt, Tom Bayliss, Scott Smith and Charlie Wyke are all out injured for Wigan this week, while defender Luke Robinson is also considered a doubt. Wigan rescued a valuable point at Ipswich on Tuesday and with Rotherham continuing to flounder, the Latics need just a single win for their final two matches to land the title.
Plymouth
Alfie Lewis, James Bolton, Brendan Galloway and George Cooper are all listed as injured for Plymouth, though skipper Joe Edwards should be back in the fold. Top scorer Ryan Hardie was fit enough to start in Monday’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland the Scot should lead the line again here. Plymouth still need points to ensure they are in the playoffs next month.
