Drogheda Draw no Bet
Newly-promoted UCD are the only team in the Premier Division still searching for their first win after nine games of the new campaign and that hunt for glory could go on past Friday evening. Drogheda are unbeaten in four games and they thumped the Students 4-2 when the teams met last month. Drogs have shared the spoils in each of their last three assignments however, so take a cautious approach and back them in the draw no bet market.
Both Teams to Score
With just three clean sheets between them in 18 fixtures combined this term, both UCD and Drogheda are always likely to concede and we expect goals to be lodged at both ends when these leaky defences face off in Dublin. BTTS has landed in 75% of Drogheda’s away matches to date in 2022 and we’re tipping that pattern to continue when they head south to the capital on Friday.
Over 2.5 Goals
When Drogheda hosted UCD at Head in the Game Park last month, one of the most thrilling contests of the campaign so far ensued. Defending was considered an afterthought in an enthralling 4-2 victory for Drogs, who were three goals to the good by the break. That was the fourth time in as many meetings between the clubs where a minimum of three goals rattled the net, so expect more of the same at the UCD Bowl this week.
UCD vs Drogheda United Match Preview and Team News
UCD
Defender Harvey O’Brien is the only confirmed absentee for UCD this week. The Students picked up a useful point on the road at Sligo (2-2) last time out, though Andrew Meyler’s troops have yet to force a victory of any description since their promotion. UCD have only scored five times in the Premier Division so far and no other combatant has registered less often.
Drogheda
Darragh Markey and Adam Foley are both sidelined for Drogheda this week, though boss Kevin Doherty has a strong pool of players to pick from elsewhere. The Drogs took a single point from each of their last three fixtures, though that run of stalemates has allowed them to string together a healthy four-match unbeaten run.
