Greece Double Chance
Edward Iordănescu and Gus Poyet take charge of Romania and Greece respectively for the first time in Friday evening’s friendly, though the Uruguayan coach could be the happier of the two come full time in Bucharest. Greece have avoided defeat in an impressive nine of their last 12 away assignments and they have the edge in terms of quality over their hosts again here. Backing the Greeks in the double chance market adds an extra layer of insurance that bettors are advised to take.
Under 2.5 Goals
Both Iordănescu and Poyet will be keen for their teams to be compact and difficult to beat at the Stadionul Steaua on Friday and as a result, goalscoring chances could be few and far between. Seven of Romania’s last eight matches and each of Greece’s last four produced under 2.5 goals and this week’s friendly clash could follow suit.
First Half Result: Draw
While both new coaches would love to start their tenures with a win on Friday, they will be equally determined not to open their account with a defeat, so caution could be the name of the game in Bucharest, especially in the contest’s early exchanges. Bettors would be wise to expect the sides to feel each other out in the opening period, so back a draw in the half time market in Romania.
Romania vs Greece Match Preview and Team News
Romania
Edward Iordănescu has named four uncapped players in his first Romania squad in keepers Mihai Aioani, Horațiu Moldovan, defender Radu Drăgușin and midfielder Octavian Popescu. With seven players aged 23 or under in the camp, the Romanian squad has a youthful look about it and having performed admirably in the World Cup qualifiers, The Tricolours have a positive platform to build on.
Greece
Goalkeeper Giorgos Athanasiadis, defender Lefteris Lyratzis and Cagliari midfielder Christos Kourfalidis are the only three players in Gus Poyet’s first Greek squad yet to win an international cap. Greece have some exciting forward players on board in AZ’s Vangelis Pavlidis, Twente’s Dimitris Limnios and Utrecht’s Tasos Douvikas.
