A draw to satisfy both teams
Dundee United were simply sensational last weekend as they put three past Hibs on their own patch to extend their unbeaten run to three games. Now they host fellow top half side Motherwell aiming to make it four. We think they’ll get a result too although they’ll have to share the spoils with Motherwell. Motherwell have lost their last two but have faced tough opposition in Hearts and Celtic. A point for them will just stop the rot whilst Dundee United will eight points from 12 a fantastic return.
Both teams to score
There is enough in the stats that you could spin the both team to score market to a ‘no’ if you so wished but the ‘yes’ side of the bet carries better value. Dundee United have scored in each of their last five matches and are averaging just a shade under one goal scored per game across the league season. Motherwell failed to score in their last two matches but have five goals scored in their last five games an are averaging over one goal scored each game for the season. Both have recorded clean sheets in recent times but we don’t see it here.

Given we fancy both teams to score you might be surprised to see us back under 2.5 goals but we’re pretty confident on this one with the stats firmly backing up our view. If you look across the entire season (nine games) both teams come up short of the 2.5 mark for total goals; Motherwell sit on 2.4 with Dundee United well down with a league low 1.4. More recently, Dundee United have seen three of their last five come in under 2.5 with an average of 2.2 goals whilst Motherwell have only passed the 2.5 mark once; again their average is under 2.5 at 2.2. Three of the last five head to heads have been under the threshold as well.

Dundee United are in sensational form right now with Ben Siegrist, who was widely tipped to leave in pre-season, enjoying a fantastic time between the sticks. At the top end of the pitch Ian Harkes is the man; he got a goal or an assist in each of his last three games. Those two will be key again in this match whilst Liam Smith may be back in contention too.
Motherwell
Motherwell are doing okay so far; they’re in the top half and looking up rather than behind, which is a good start. Tony Watt is putting the ball in the net for his team, which gives them a chance to win games but he could do with his teammates shutting the door at the other end. Robbie Crawford, although not a defender, could arguably assist that but injury is keeping him out at present.
