These odds from Betfred were correct at the time of writing.

Both teams to score: YES

In a game where many changes are expected, these games can sometimes take a bit of time to take off – however looking at the records of both teams, there have been plenty of goals. The Czechs in their last ten matches have seen both teams score five times and for Ukraine, their last ten matches has seen both teams score six times. In a game where the pressure is off, we are expecting both teams to score in what we hope is an entertaining game.

A goal to be scored in the first thirty minutes: NO

Despite predicting that both teams will score, we are thinking it might take a bit of time to ignite. In games like this where both sides are likely to experiment with their starting 11s, it can sometimes take a while for the game to come to life and we are expecting the first thirty minutes to be cagey and tactical with the score to remain 0-0 as the game approaches half time.

Under 10 corners in the match: YES

Both teams are fairly defensive in their approaches and the game could be a bit of a tactical affair. In the last few matches that these sides have played, the corner counts have been low. In the Czechs last three matches they have seen corner counts of 7, 14 and 16. For Ukraine, there has been 6, 7 and 5 corners. Hoping that the game takes a bit of time to ignite for two defensively minded teams, we think under 10 corners could be a good way to play.

Czech Republic vs Ukraine Match Preview

Wednesday night sees a clash of two teams who are coming off the back of a positive 2020 European Championship. Both teams performed above expectations to reach the quarterfinals with the Czechs losing to Denmark and Ukraine losing to England.

With attention now turned towards qualifying for next year’s World Cup, both sides must be reasonably pleased with how their qualifying campaigns are progressing. The Czechs look set to battle it out for second spot in their group with Wales with Ukraine and Finland looking to finish second behind France.

Injury and team news

As discussed at the top of the article this friendly match will allow both managers to rest some players ahead of next month’s crucial set of qualifiers and give fringe players the opportunity for some game time. West Ham manager David Moyes will be hoping that key pair Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are given a rest, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko if he plays will earn a 50th cap for his country.

Key men

For the Czechs the key man if he starts is midfield dynamo Tomas Soucek. The West Ham midfielder has taken the Premier League by storm, chipping in with 14 goals in just over 50 appearances. For his country, he has scored nine times. A threat in both boxes, Soucek is a real danger man and his performance could be key in securing a win for the Czechs.

For Ukraine, the key man is captain Andriy Yarmolenko. Considering his bit-part role for his club, Yarmolenko seems to thrive when he puts on his national jersey, he had a good Euros scoring one of the goals of the tournament against the Dutch in their opening group game. Yarmolenko has a brilliant goal-scoring record for his country finding the net forty times. If he starts, look for Yarmolenko to add to his goal tally.
