Nuggets to Win on Spread (+5)
The Suns have been impressive in the regular season, but not many people expected them to eliminate the current NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers. Still, the Suns did it and now they are rightfully favorites for the series against the Nuggets. However, we expect Game 1 to be very close – Chris Paul is still dealing with a shoulder injury and the Nuggets have the unofficial MVP on their team. So, since we expect a close game, our first Suns vs Nuggets predictions is for the Nuggets to win on the spread.
Nikola Jokic Total Points, Rebounds & Assists Over 48.5 Total Points
According to most experts, insiders, and bookies, the MVP award will rightfully go into the hands of Serbian center Nikola Jokic. Jokic has been phenomenal the entire season, hasn’t missed even a single game, and he let the Nuggets to third seed after Jamal Murray was injured and ruled out for the season. The center has been equally impressive in the playoffs, averaging 33 PPG, 10.5 RPG and 4.5 APG against the Blazers. We expect him to keep going even against a much better defense like the one that the Suns play, so our next Suns vs Nuggets prediction is for Jokic to combine more than 48 total points, rebounds and assists.
Deandre Ayton Over 13.5 Total Points
Although Deandre Ayton is not best known for his scoring abilities, he is more than capable of delivering on that end of the court as well. In fact, Ayton averaged 15.8 points per game against the Lakers, so we were surprised to see that the line is set at 13 points in this game. Furthermore, the young center will be playing against Jokic, who is not known for his defense and most centers have a lot of space against him. So, our final Suns vs Nuggets prediction is for Ayton to score more than 13 points.
Suns vs Nuggets preview – Can the Nuggets reach the finals in the West again?
The two teams that have never won the NBA title will play against each other in the Western Conference semi-finals, so let’s take a closer look at both teams:
The Suns have nearly missed the playoffs last season, so many expected them to achieve this feat this year. However, the Suns have exceeded those expectations by taking the second seed in the West and then eliminating the reigning champions. Led by the legendary playmaker Chris Paul, the Suns have a lot of potential and it’s hard to predict how far they can go in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Chris Paul is struggling with a should injury at the moment, although that didn’t force him to miss any game so far.
Many people expected the Nuggets to crumble once Jamal Murray went down with a season-ending injury, but the team from Colorado continued their journey to becoming a powerhouse in the West. Michael Porter Jr. stepped up and proved that he is rightfully considered the next big thing in the NBA, but other role players have also performed well to help the Nuggets eliminate the Blazers in the first round, especially Austin Rivers and Monte Morris. The Nuggets will be without Murray once again, while Will Barton and PJ Dozier should be back sometime soon, although not in time for Game 1 against the Suns.
