Villarreal vs Manchester United: Streaming, Lineups, h2h (26/05/2021)

In the Europa League final, this season Villarreal will clash with Manchester United to determine who will take the title and qualify for the Champions League. Let’s see what we can expect on Wednesday in terms of streaming and expected lineups.

Match Preview for the 2020/2021 Europa League Final

Villarreal took on another English club – Arsenal in the Europa League semi-finals and beat them with two goals against one for the Gunners. Unai Emery lead his new team against his former team in the semi-finals and managed to boot them out of the tournament, and as people say “an eye for an eye,” he took his revenge for being sacked by Arsenal. Villarreal also managed to get revenge for the last two times that Arsenal was the reason they left the Europa League.

In the last match played, the Yellow Submarine lost in the La Liga fixture against Real Madrid. This effectively ended any chance they might have had to qualify for the Champions League via La Liga, so now, their only chance is to win against Manchester United on Wednesday.

In the second semi-final, Manchester United beat AS Roma to get to the final with six goals against two for the Italian club. The last match the Red Devils played was in the Premier League against the Wolverhampton Wanderers. The first and last time that Manchester United won a Europa League was in the 2016-2017 season and it was against Unai Emery’s team at the time – Ajax.

The Red Devils were the favorites to get to the final and win this year’s Europa League ever since they surprisingly lost their spot at the Champions League. They have faced several Spanish clubs in the Europa League to get here and Villarreal is the next in line.

Villarreal vs Manchester United: Head-to-Head Statistics and Recent Form

Villarreal’s latest Europa League form consists of five wins and one draw, while Manchester United has four wins, one draw, and one loss. The team in better form is Villarreal, including the form statistics for the recent games they played (across all competitions) – three wins, one draw, and one loss out of five fixtures. Manchester United’s form across all competitions consists of three losses, one draw, and one win.

There were only four times in history where Villarreal and Manchester United played against each other. All of those fixtures were in the Champions League, but this year, for their fifth head-to-head, they are meeting in the final of the Europa League.

It’s interesting that the four times these two clubs played against each other no one has scored a goal, ever. Not in the two fixtures in 2005 or the next two in 2008, all of them ended 0-0. If history repeats itself, it will be very interesting, but we believe that this time at least one goal will be scored.

Expected Lineups for the Villarreal vs Manchester United Fixture

Villarreal will most likely be missing three players for the fixture against the Red Devils on Wednesday. Central midfielder Vicente Iborra is still out since December because of a cruciate ligament, and Samuel Chukwueze and Juan Foyth, who have hamstring injuries probably won’t make the final lineup.

Manchester United also has three injured players – Anthony Martial and Phil Jones will most likely miss the game because of their knee injuries, and Harry Maguire (the captain of the Red Devils) got an ankle injury and his recovery has been slow, so it’s highly doubtful he will make the final squad even if he passes the final test.

  • The expected lineup for Villarreal is as follows:

Alfonso Pedraza; Raul Albiol; Etienne Capoue; Manuel Trigueros; Gerard Moreno; Sergio Asenjo; Pau Torres; Mario Gaspar; Dani Parejo; Yeremi Pino; Carlos Bacca

  • The predicted lineup for Manchester United is as follows:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka; Victor Lindelof; Fred; Marcus Rashford; Paul Pogba; David de Gea; Eric Bailly; Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay; Edinson Cavani; Bruno Fernandes
